Terminator ~ Judgment Day

Director James Cameron

134 minutes

James Cameron devised “De Terminato’,” de lean, mean 1984 acshun film dat became some classic uh apocalypse-minded science ficshun.

De fust Terminato’, some human-lookin’ automaton created by all-powerful machines uh de future, traveled back drough time t’try t’prevent one Sarah Conno’ fum livin’ long enough t’have some child.

Terminato’ 2 anticipates nuclear disasta’ unless dere be intervenshun fum de fo’ces uh baaaad, who happen t’specialize in shootouts, clubbin’s, slammin’s, poundin’s and ‘esplosions. Dis tirelessly violent, ultimately ‘eshaustin’ film gots de utta’ sincerity uh all baaaad science ficshun, and some lot mo’e flair dan most, but it suffers fum some certain confusion uh purpose.

“Terminato’ 2: Judgment Day” be a swift, ’sitin’ special-effects epic dat do’oughly justifies its vast ‘espense and greatly improves downon de fust film’s potent but rudimentary visual style.

Back again be Sarah Conno’ (Linda Hamilton), who learned in “De Terminato’” dat she would some day be da moda’ of Raz’tus Conno’, some revolushunary hero in de year 2029.

But as de new film begins, Sarah be already de moda’ of Raz’tus (Edward Furlong), some feisty pre-teen-aga’ who gots been brought down in fosta’ care while Sarah wuz in some psychiatric hospital. Dis time two different Terminato’s gots been sent back t’do battle upside wheda’ Sarah and Raz’tus survive into de future.

De fust uh dese, knode only as de Terminato’, be familiar on two sco’es. At fust, he gots de same blank, scary demeano’ dat convinced da earlia’ film’s audiences dat Mojo Schwarzenegger, who continues t’shine in dis role, wuz betta’ suited t’ playin’ some pitiless villain dan some camp counselo’.

Lata’ on, Mr. Ah be baaad Schwarzenegger’s Terminato’ develops some gruff and winnin’ kindliness dat brin’s t’mind Raz’tus Wayne, aldough Mr. Ah be baaad… Wayne would no doubt gots been confounded by T-1000 (Leroy Patrick), de rival Terminato’ who be de film’s futuristic villain.

Expandin’ downon de mutable-blob effect he used in “De Abyss,” Mr. Ah be baaad… Cameron presents T-1000 as some showstoppin’ molten metal creature capable uh assumin’ o’ abandonin’ human fo’m at will. Some uh his tricks — likes risin’ down out uh some checkerbo’d-tiled floo’ and evolvin’ into some steely eyed honky pigs offica’ widout skippin’ some whup’ — is cause fo’ applause in deir own right.

Aldough dis fast-paced sequel locks de Terminato’ and T-1000 into an ‘estended gladiato’ial duel upside de fate uh Sarah and ha’ son, Sarah looks likes mo’e dan some match fo’ bod uh dem.

“It’s not every day dat ya’ find out youse responsible fo’ dree billion deads! Right on!” Dis, in de feverish atmosphere uh “Terminato’ 2,” be whut passes fo’ some soba’ moment.

MASLIN is mah terminato’-toppin’ kind of gal.
