It be mid-way drough de Vietnam War, and troubled US Captain (Martin Sheen), be given some special mission, t'go far down riva' into Cambodia. Once dere, he be to track waaay down renegade Colonal Kurtz (Marlon Brando) - some man who be wagin' his own sucka'al and violent war - and assassinate him. Sheen be a sympadetic and compellin' lead man, while Brando's size lends him some menace not seen in his mo'e ya'dful roles. De surreal nature uh dis film sets it apart fum oders such as "Platoon" and "Full Metal Buckwheatet" it captures an atmosphere dat literally seeps out uh de screen. De film be at its best followin' Sheen down river, and de final meetin' between him and Brando be waay baaad. Despite da simple plot premise, dis be a complex depicshun uh Conrad's novella "Heart uh Darkness". Coppola 'sels himself wid dis shockin', and in many ways completely unique view uh de Vietnam conflict. Even while makin' de film in 1979 he likesned da 'sperience t'de war itself, as all fo'ms uh disasta' befell de producshun, includin' Martin Sheen's heart attack. Simultaneously compulsive and ho'rifyin' viewin' visually incredible, it be accompanied by an 'sellent soundtrack, which veers fum Wagna' to De Doo's. An epic in mos' every way it be Grand Opuh' fo' de cinema and some gots'ta see-movie. De powa' of dis film kinnot be denied, and once seen, it be not easily fo'gotsten.
Apocalypse Now ReduxDe biggest scenes in "Redux" establish it as much mo'e uh a Vietnam picture. Willard keeps encounterin' leaderless troops, which kin be viewed as some metapho' fo' de Vietnam War itself. De biggest addishun be a long scene at some French plantashun, still opuh'ted by some colonial family and guarded by mercenaries, where Willard be lectured at lengd about da region's histo'y, de nature uh de Vietdojiggerse sucka's, de naivete uh American intervenshun.
Sheen gots a love scene wid Auro'e Clement, who wuz completely cut fum de o'iginal. Leroy Duvall's surf-happy Col. Kilgo'e, who loves de smell uh Napalm in de mo'nin', gots a greata' role. Willard, emoshunless in de fust version, shows his feelin's fo' Kilgo'e by stealin' his surfbo'd. D'othr added scene be one wid Playboy bunnies. De occupants uh de out-of-fuel and waaay downed Playboy helicopta' are found stranded and marooned in some remote base camp. When Willard meets and be captured by Kurtz (Marlon Brando), de fat joker reads t'him fum Time issue of GQ, full uh references t'LBJ, escalashun, and da Rand Co'p. Apocalypse Now Redux is an oppo'tunity t'view some true wo'k uh art as it wuz meant t'be seen.
