The incoming link's anchor text is variable – From the SEPOV, natural links show text-link variation from one site to another when referring to a common site. Artificial (bad) links are the opposite—they show identical text links usually because of some reciprocal link campaign where the optimizer solicited the links en masse and perhaps even paid for them. These links look artificial from the SEPOV." "

**Update** Since the above policy reversal (late September, 2006) three major events changed the SheepOverboard world:
The 'Google Slap' sent Google Adwords bid prices soaring for advertisers whose landing page was a simple sales, or 'squeeze,' page - with little original content, of little value to web surfers who - so the theories go - seek quality rewards for their searching effort in the form of information. Put another way, the search engines are seeking to "improve the browsing experience of their clients."
SheepOverboard heavied our too-generous web hosting company 24hostingnow.com politely demanding we be moved to a server with fewer outages, so our IP address changed and probably our hosting neighborhood. If implicated, was it these or the reliable uptime as measured by the Google/MSN/Slurp bots?
We dumped the links below and stopped exchanging links en masse.

Which of these created the effect illustrated in our traffic statistics below we cannot say - or even if all three. But the change is dramatic, overwhelming and a sea change after three years of pedestrian, plodding progress.



Other possibilities exist - that our page count passed a critical mass as perceived by the search engines, or our approaching third birthday did likewise. These factors are strongly favored as theoretical reasons in reputability for search engine inclusion.

Finally, note the swing down for Yahoo while Google and MSN were dramatically up. And the image search for Google, from 16 to 1075 in one month!? What gives? Whatever.
